After reading this week’s material I am surprised how much I didn’t see around me. I didn’t realize how much we use technology every day, only because it seems so natural to me now. It doesn’t seem as odd to me anymore to hear about young children having cell phones or Facebook accounts only because now a days it seems like everyone and their bother has one. Actually, it is quite funny, my grandmother has a Facebook account to play Farmville. At first she had no idea what to do, but now that the grandchildren have taught her, she’s commenting on everyone’s profiles and uses it for much more than Farmville. But, that is just what I am talking about. Technology seems to have taken over our lives and the “digital natives”, such as myself and other younger children, do not seem to think of life in any different way. And, it seems odd to hear our parents talk about how, when they were our age, they received their first microwave or colored television, especially since they just came out with a 3D television this year. These books are really opening my eyes and making me reconsider time spent in the virtual world, it makes me wonder if, even though it is helpful, in certain circumstances it may be hurting us as well. I also found the book They Say I Say very helpful, it is so simply put that I cannot believe I haven’t used those examples in my writing before. I feel that people, especially myself, tend to over think writing/ essays and freeze up. I have a feeling I will be referring to this little book many of times for this class.

Well done, Hailey. Fish never consider the water until it starts to boil. It's such a good thing to expand our awareness of how the world impacts our lives. I love that your grandmother is more active on FB now. I'm sure she is finding it to be a way to keep in touch with those she loves, just as I keep in touch with friends and family who live too far away to visit often. :) lr
